About

STORIES THAT CONNECT GENERATIONS

Black History brings together stories about the people, culture and communities that have shaped Britain and the wider world.

History to explore throughout the year

We publish articles about lives, ideas, creativity, work and political change. Black British history sits at the heart of the collection, alongside histories from Africa, the Caribbean and beyond.

Our aim is to make room for well-known figures and for the everyday lives, local organisations and shared efforts that also shape history.

Find your way into the collection

  • Articles and life stories explore people, places and events across a growing range of subjects.
  • The timeline offers a starting point for following events and connections through time.
  • The Schools Resource Centre brings together teaching materials and printable resources. Visit the schools page for registration and access details, or explore the Welsh resources.
  • The Bookshop helps readers discover Black authors and books about Black history, with links to publishers and booksellers.

Evidence, questions and further reading

We aim to make history accessible while treating evidence and the people behind it with care. Sources and further reading help readers continue their own research and consider how accounts of the past are formed.

If you notice an error or can suggest a useful source, please get in touch. Booksellers, publishers and artists can also introduce a collaboration idea.
